Google’s online apps and services to drop support for Internet Explorer 8

Google is planning on dropping support for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 browser for the company’s online apps and services, starting November 15th of this year. This is a major blow to Windows XP users who are unable to upgrade away from Internet Explorer 8.

“Internet Explorer 10 launches on 10/26/2012, and as a result, we will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 8 shortly afterwards, on 11/15/2012. After this date users accessing Google Apps services using Internet Explorer 8 will see a message recommending that they upgrade their browser,” Google stated in an official blog post. This is a major blow to those who are on Windows XP and are locked into using Internet Explorer 8. Google has already discontinued support for Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7, so this move really hurts those who are on Windows XP. Unfortunately, Internet Explorer 9 or 10 will not work on Windows XP. Google Apps and perhaps even Gmail may be affected by this so those on XP should be aware. Google will become the first major online company to drop support for Internet Explorer 8.
