Instagram now lets you broadcast live video on the platform through your PC or mobile device running Windows 10. As you might have probably guessed, the new feature works in the same way as Facebook Live, though there’s no option to replay the video once the broadcast is finished.

Instagramintroduced its live video featurein November, along with disappearing video and new Instagram Direct features such as stickers and the ability to draw emojis. You can access the Live video feature swiping right or toggling the bottom of the screen to launch Instagram Live. The video disappears once you conclude your broadcast.

Users can check out their videos from the Stories tab using another device. Followers can also post their comment on your live video. Instagram also baked in a special Instagram Live section in the Explore tab to let users search for the top Live videos.

Note that the update will arrive in waves, meaning it may take a while before you can get your hands on the new feature. The ephemeral live video started rolling out to all users in the United States beginning on December 12.

Instagram Direct updates

In addition to the Live rollout, Instagram also updated its Direct messaging system. The update simplifies the way you send and receive photos and videos. You can now simply swipe to the right to switch to the camera. You can also insert stickers and emojis to your message.

Instagram Direct also lets you select a group or make a new one with which you can then share photos and videos. The photos and videos you share are also ephemeral in nature, disappearing from your inbox of your friends after they view them. You will also receive a notification once a recipient takes a screenshot of your message, just like Snapchat does.
