Six weeks ago, Kudo Tsunoda, who worked within Xbox on Kinect and HoloLens, moved to a new job, as Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Windows Apps Studio. Now,according to Mary Jo Foley, Tsunoda’s team has set to work on a new Windows consumer app, code-named “Beihai”. The code name comes from a city in China, and so we’ll have to keep our eyes out for “China-class” code names and what they have in common.

There has been some speculation that “Beihai” is a new HoloLens game, but Mary Jo thinks there’s more to it than that, and her sources are telling her that instead, the new consumer focused Windows app will run on HoloLens, yes, but also on other Windows 10 devices. One job posting that has left clues about what we might expect from “Beihai” comes from the team that created Skype for HoloLens, and reveals that they’re now focused on “building groundbreaking 3D experiences across all devices: phone, tablet, desktop and HoloLens.”

Microsoft seems intent on blurring the lines between Xbox and Windows, and on bringing HoloLens into the fold as a key component in the company’s strategy moving forward. It will be interesting to see how “Beihai”, and the Windows Apps Studio fits in to the company’s grand plans
