Microsoft has announced that the Los Angeles County has moved more than 100,000 employees in over 30 departments to Microsoft’s Office 365 cloud offering. The county is the largest in the nation, and has selected Office over Google Apps.
“This move gives L.A. County workers access to the tools that come standard in Office 365, such as email; productivity apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint; voice and video conferencing and other collaboration tools; the ability to work from anywhere and virtually any device; and built-in security and privacy compliance. It also allows the county to simplify and unify all of its employees,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.
Departments who have tight budgets can now spend less time worrying about technology and more time on their work. Office 365 also provides the level of security and built-in compliance for HIPAA and CJIS that government agencies require.
The move to Office 365 allows the LA County to provide greater services to over 30 departments county-wide and control costs. Each department is unique and needs to meet certain specific requirements, and Office 365 will allow these departments to better serve the needs of employees and citizens.
The Los Angeles County joins San Francisco City and County; the cities of Long Beach, San Jose, Oakland and Anaheim; Santa Clara County, Ventura County, San Bernardino County, and Orange County sheriffs’ departments – all making the move to Office 365.
“The county sees a strong movement toward mobility by its staff and in its services offerings to the public through Web services and smart apps,” Sanchez said. “Departments will be able to start realizing the benefits of mobility. Using mobile devices, sheriff deputies can access information from their patrol cars, case workers can access files during a foster home visit, and a food inspector can file a report directly from a remote location. This move will help make county employees’ jobs easier by enabling them to exchange information and focus on delivery of services to citizens.”
