Microsoft released cumulative update KB3200970 forWindows 10as a part of this month’s Patch Tuesday. The update caused a lot of problems to users who installed it. We already told you about itsmost common problems.
Ever since users reported these issues, Microsoft has remained silent about possible workarounds — until now. The company has recently spoken about installation issues on Lenovo laptops in aKB page, explaining that a UEFI update was released by Lenovo in order to address possible problems.
“Some Lenovo servers do not start after this update is installed. Lenovo is aware of this problem and has released a UEFI update to address it. In the interim, Microsoft has changed the detection logic in the update to prevent additional customers from being affected.”
Lenovo alsoconfirmsthe problem. However, according to the company, only devices running Windows Server 2016, 2012R2, or 2012 November update are affected. Lenovo also provided workaround instructions for the affected users.
To resolve the problem, you need to disable Automatic Update, install Lenovo’s UEFI update, and then install the cumulative update as well.
Many problems remain unsolved
Microsoft and Lenovo addressed the installation issues on Lenovo’s laptops. However, as you can see from our report article, the update caused many more. Microsoft remained silent about all other problems on non-Lenovo computers and as a result, they remained unsolved.
So, even though we have some feedback, the majority of users find it useless. The only thing affected users can do is wait for Microsoft to acknowledge these problems or wait for another cumulative update.
The new cumulative update for Windows 10 will be released relatively soon, during December’sPatch Tuesday. Microsoft might decide to release a new update sooner, but it seems unlikely now. When the update is released, we’ll see if the issues still persist.
