Earlier today, Microsoft announced that it had sold its MixRadio service to the popular messaging company LINE. You may remember that Microsoft itself acquired MixRadio from Nokia as part of the deal to transfer the phone manufacturer’s Devices & Services division to Microsoft.

“We wanted MixRadio to continue to operate with a commitment to constant innovation and aspiration to deliver the best possible mobile-first experience to listeners. LINE share this vision and our passion for simple, personal and fun user experiences in every way.” – Jyrki Rosenberg, Head of MixRadio

With Xbox Music already up and running at Microsoft, it seems the software giant couldn’t find a place for MixRadio within its ranks. And with LINE, the fastest growing messaging service looking to expand its offerings, MixRadio finally found a place to call home.

“As the world’s leading mobile messenger with 170 million monthly active users in 230 countries, LINE constantly seeks to expand its range of services to become an integral part of consumers’ daily lives. Acknowledging the fact that Music and Entertainment are essential aspects in life, LINE has chosen to acquire MixRadio…” – LINE PR

Both Microsoft and LINE confirmed that the team behind the MixRadio service will continue to be headquartered in Bristol, United Kingdom, and will continue to provide the service to Lumia customers, now as a third-party application. The acquisition is expected to be finalized early next year.

For most of the kids of his age, the Internet was an amazing way to play and communicate with others, but he was deeply impressed by the flow of information and how easily you can find anything on the web.

Prior to founding Windows Report, this particular curiosity about digital content enabled him to grow a number of sites that helped hundreds of millions reach faster the answer they’re looking for.
