Microsoft has had its head in the Cloud for some time now, and as that push gets harder every year, it only makes sense that Microsoft need to invest in more data centers. As was predictedaround a year ago, Microsoft has decided to take the plunge in San Antonio andpurchase nearly 160 acresof land from the Texas Research & Technology Foundation.This purchase will reportedly house what Microsoft intends to be one of the largest data centers in the United States, and seems to have been a relatively good deal for both sides. Microsoft now has a massive plot of land to start work on its data center, and the TRTF are going to use the money that they made to help fund some of Alamo City’s new biotech companies.Microsoft plans to begin the first phases of construction this coming January, and will be putting together 8 different buildings for the data center. Construction should span over the course of 5 years, and will be creating around 900 jobs.
