Earlier today we delivered you the news that an update for the Maps for Windows 10was rolling out to all users. Now a few hours later, Kushal Kapoor, the Product Marketing Manager for the Windows Maps team has taken toan official blogto announce all the details on the latest update to Windows 10 Maps.
Overall, the post addresses the new features and how the team worked to deliver their promise of a maps experience that goes far beyond directions. It begins by mentioning the fact that guided navigation has been updated in Windows 10 Maps, with turn-by-turn instructions optimized for glanceability, including phone landscape mode. Kushal also notes that it is now easier to use the Windows Maps app on a phone with one hand now that navigation has been positioned at the bottom. New support for a guided transit experience, which includes notifications to get off the bus, also highlights this section of the post.
Second is the fact that you can now view multiple searches in a single map view at the same time. Kushal notes how the Maps team made it easy to plan your activities with a map that also surfaces the right type of information at the right time by allowing you to label for your search results directly on the map.
Improved detail cards and more support for offline maps were also detailed in the third section of the post. Kushal notes that in addition to the offline routing and search support, all your saved favorite places are now available offline. Additionally, Cortana, Kushal notes, will make this easy for you by automatically reminding you to download the offline map before you take off on vacation.
The post ends with the fact that that the Windows 10 Maps app is a great option for those who use the HERE suite of apps. It is noted that HERE customers can now migrate up to 300 of their HERE favorites right into the Windows 10 Maps app.
