According to anew reportfrom The New York Times, citing people with relevant information on condition of anonymity, Microsoft is expected announce a new round of layoffs soon, in addition to the 18,000 employees it let go off in the last year. Most of the layoffs are expected to be from the Microsoft’s hardware group, which includes the struggling smartphone manufacturer Nokia the company acquired for $7.2 billion.

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella hinted at the job cuts a number of times lately, with the CEO saying that the company had to “make some tough choices in areas where things are not working and solve hard problems in ways that drive customer value.” The upcoming changes are a part of the restructuring which has been going on for months, ever since Satya Nadella took the charge of the company.

Microsoft is having some problems in the mobile operating system market, which is dominated by Android and iOS. The company has been struggling to make it more mainstream, but hope to change things with the upcoming Windows 10 operating system which is expected to see the light of the day by the end of this year.
