The two main consoles of this generation – the PS4 and the Xbox One – have had their fanbases at each others’ throats for some time. Forums and subreddits have been filled with people convinced that their console of choice is flawless, and the opposing one is lacking. While some people here might consider themselves a part of the Microsoft diehards that scream the praises of the Xbox One from the rooftops, the numbers recently leaked by EA seem to suggest that sales don’t reflect that superiority.

In a recentinvestor call from EA, CFO Blake Jorgenson told us that around 55 million current generation consoles have been sold since they launched just a couple of years back. While Xbox doesn’t publicly release their sales numbers, Sony pushes them proudly – the last figure we’ve seen being around36 million. Judging from that, we can glean that Microsoft has sold somewhere around 19 million units since launching the Xbox One.

While the numbers tend to lean heavily towards Sony’s favor, it doesn’t necessarily bode ill for Xbox. Microsoft has seen a steady increase in sales year after year, in consoles sold, games sold, and even Xbox Live memberships, which are up to 48 million subscriptions.

With games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Halo 5 making their way onto the market during 2015, the Xbox community has gotten a huge stimulus of new blood that’s excited to see what 2016 has in store. And with games like Recore and Quantum Break slated to come out this year, the number of Xbox Ones that are going to be sold is definitely going to increase by a huge margin. Hopefully Microsoft makes those numbers available for us to look over soon, so that we can celebrate their progress with them.
