Microsoft recently announced that they have sold almost 10 million Xbox One consoles to retailers since its launch almost a year ago. Most of the progress is attributed to the price reduction for the console — the Kinect-free console — as well as exclusive new games and bundles which were introduced in the past few weeks.

Microsoft even offered a$50 discount on Xbox One for the holiday season, making it an even better choice for gamers in the US. To kick things off even more, Microsoft introduced the latest in the Halo franchise a few days back, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, as well as some other popular titles such as Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sunset Overdrive (and the white console), and more.

Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi further mentioned that Xbox One sales have tripled since November 2nd in the US after Microsoft reduced the price of the console by $50 for a limited time period.

“The response to this wave of blockbuster game releases and new bundles has been amazing, and sales have skyrocketed since the new price took effect on Nov. 2. Compared to the previous week, Xbox One sales in the US have more than tripled, which is exciting as more and more friends will be playing together this holiday,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Devices and Studios. “As we head into the busy holiday season Xbox One led generation 8 console sales in the US for the past two weeks.  Shortly, we will have sold in to retailers more than 10 million Xbox One consoles.”

Furthermore, it’s definitely a good news for the software giant, but selling units to retailers is quite different than selling them to consumers. Sony’s PlayStation 4 has consistently outsold the Xbox One in the past few months, but things may turn out to be different in the coming weeks as Microsoft has taken measures to attract more customers.
