Last month, we learned that Microsoft was reportedly ready tomove its Southfield, Michigan staff in downtown Detroit. The official announcement was made today by Bedrock Real Estate Services CEO Jim Ketai at One Campus Martius, a building owned in part by founding partner Dan Gilbert (viaFox 2). Microsoft will move its 50,000 square foot offices to the building, displacing a part of the Quicken Loans team from its headquarters along the way, explained Gilbert.

The news is a pretty big deal for the Motor City, which saw many business moving out due to the economic recession over the past few years. A previous report fromDetroit Free pressexplained that Microsoft may be wanting to move to the heart of Detroit to pursue development on its connected car platform, which wasdemonstrated back at CES 2017.

During the news conference this morning, business magnate Dan Gilbert shared his enthusiasm for Detroit becoming one of the biggest worldwide tech hubs in the next 15 years. According to Fox 2, theMicrosoft Technology Center in Southfieldwill also follow Microsoft’s staff downtown.

For most of the kids of his age, the Internet was an amazing way to play and communicate with others, but he was deeply impressed by the flow of information and how easily you can find anything on the web.

Prior to founding Windows Report, this particular curiosity about digital content enabled him to grow a number of sites that helped hundreds of millions reach faster the answer they’re looking for.
