Microsoft Stores will update new devices to Windows 10 for free at launch

Certainly there has been some confusion on whether there will be new Windows 10 PCs available for purchase when Windows 10 launches on July 29th. There is still apre-order page on Dell’s websitetaking orders for their allegedly Windows 10-ready PCs. There areconflicting reports on whether Microsoftwill have PC OEMs out there that will have Windows 10 PCs available for purchase. Microsoft is also not confirming any specific date as to when Windows 10 will become available on the Surface 3 or Surface Pro 3 tablets either.

Microsoft responded to an inquiry by Windows Central:

“As with any Windows launch, we are working quickly to stock shelves with Windows 10 devices, including Surface. While you can expect to see Surface devices running Windows 10 on shelves soon, Windows 8.1 devices still provide an exceptional experience and are easily upgraded to Windows 10 for free. Additionally, all Microsoft Stores have the ability to upgrade new devices to Windows 10 on site.”

While you may not be able to purchase a Windows 10-ready PC, you will likely be able to buy a Surface Pro 3 or Surface 3 and get an on-site upgrade at any Microsoft Store in North America when Windows 10 launches on July 29th. Nevertheless, Microsoft still doesn’t have a concrete date for when Windows 10 will be available on a Surface Pro 3 or Surface 3 without the need to upgrade from Windows 8.1.
