Netflix has “no plans” to remove Windows apps

For those whose feathers were ruffled byearlier reports of the Netflix app for Windows being removedby the company, it seems now they can rest easy. The intermittent drama of the Netflix app disappearing from the Windows Store appears to be nothing more than a handful of unfortunate users encountering a glitch.

As a matter of fact,Neowin recently received confirmation from the Netflixthat states the company has no plans of removing the app anytime soon from the Windows Store and that its service should work across all Windows platforms.

Thanks for flagging this. We just looked into it and it appears to be available across all Windows platforms. There are no plans to remove it.

We’ll continue to investigate this with Microsoft.

Since using Microsoft’s proprietary Flash alternative, Silverlight, Netflix has been a staunch supporter of Windows development. During the arguable debacle that was Windows 8, Netflix remained in lock step with Microsoft developing an app for the platform as well as being a premier 1stparty developer for its Windows Phone operating system andXbox One console.

With over350 million active installations of Windows 10floating around in the world, the news of Netflix’s brief departure from the Windows Store should have been met with a hefty spoon of cautious disbelief. However, the Windows platform as of recent has been on shaking ground for developers of even the most sought after apps, as some are choosing to focus either on more profitable mobile operating systems or the web and not on the nebulous flexibility of Windows 10.

While we’ve yet to figure out what caused the glitch that resulted in a torrent of confused headlines about the Netflix removal, the end story for Windows users is a good one. Netflix will remain a mainstay experience on Windows 10, at least for the foreseeable future.
