Xbox Game Pass: Best new games this month
Say hi to the best recent Xbox Game Pass games. You’ll rarely go wrong with the diverse selection of games on Xbox Game Pass, but there are always a handful of titles that stand above the rest — including, but not limited to, exceptional indie games, addictive multiplayer games, expansive AAA games, and Microsoft’s first-party titles and projects. These are the best new games that have recently arrived on Xbox Game Pass that you shouldn’t hesitate to play.
Dead Island 2
It only took a decade, but we finally have our sequel to one of the most infamous zombie-bashing franchises.Dead Island 2is a surprisingly excellent follow-up despite its troubled development, and provides mindless, oddly satisfying fun with its brutal combat, spectacular gore effects, and goofy humor.
In our Dead Island 2 review, Samuel Tolbert concluded “Dead Island 2 is everything a Dead Island fan could ask for. Between its addicting combat mechanics, excellent character and gear progression systems, hilariously satirical writing, and goretastic presentation, this long-awaited sequel has proven it was worth the wait.” This game has actually been on Game Pass, but now it’s expanding to PC (and I figured some of you could use the reminder that you still have time to go play Dead Island 2 and bash some zombie brains).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
It’s finally here. The latestCall of Dutytitle and the first to launch under the Xbox umbrella is a day one addition to Xbox Game Pass. OurCall of Duty: Black Ops 6 reviewis glowing, and sentiments are alreadyverypositive from the community, critics, and the Windows Central team alike. With a stellar campaign, old school zombies, and fast-paced multiplayer, Black Ops 6 is one of the best Call of Duty game we’ve seen in a long time.
Black Ops 6 is only available via the Ultimate and PC tiers of Xbox Game Pass, but this is still the most accessible Call of Duty yet — both in terms of how easy it is to access andits literal accessibility settings. If you’re planning on jumping in,we do have a few tips to help improve your experience in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, as Skill Based Matchmaking has returned (much to the dismay of the community) and some game modes might test your patience. Still, I know I’m having fun (most of the time).
Ara: History Untold
I’m sensing a theme with the latest batch of additions to our best Xbox Game Pass picks, with the service going on something of a strategy streak lately.Ara: History Untoldis a brand-new franchise published by Xbox Game Studios in the popular and competitive 4X grand strategy genre, with studio Oxide Games aiming to innovate with new features, gameplay mechanics, and approaches.
In my Ara: History Untold review, I compared the game frequently to the Civilization franchise, with Ara coming out on top in the end. I concluded that, “It’s a gorgeous and polished turn-based strategy game that hooks you with “one more turn” and keeps you hooked with its flexible and varied strategy gameplay.” Ara: History Untold embraces player creativity with dynamic prestige and crafting systems, helping it stand out even when surrounded by genre legends.
The game isn’t entirely perfect, as I wished for more political and narrative depth and fewer food shortages in the final act, but Ara: History Untold has a very bright future ahead of it. The game is now available on Windows PC through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and while an Xbox console port isn’t out of the question in the future, nothing has been confirmed yet.
