The latest numbers fromNetMarketSharefor the month of April are in, and it gives us a glimpse of how different operating systems are performing. Similar tolast month, Windows 7 continues to be the dominating force when it comes to operating systems with a market share of 58.49 percent, a slight increase compared to last month’s 58.04 percent. It’s nothing surprising to be honest, as Windows 7 has continued to be the most popular operating system from more than 12 months.

As for the decade old Windows XP, it continues to decline, but remains the second most popular operating system. It has a market share of 15.93 percent, compared to 16.94 percent last month. Windows 8.1 still fails to gain a lot of traction with a small increase of 0.61 percent to 11.61 percent. Windows 8 has a market share of 3.5 percent which is a little lower than Apple’s Mac OS X — it resides at 4.23 percent, an increase from 3.96 percent last month.

Windows 10 is no where in the top ranks, but it’s a little too early for it since its running in preview form for registered Windows Insiders. Microsoft is aiming for a summer launch, but the company didn’t give out an exact availability details at the moment. Some reports hint at its launch by the end of July, but there’s no official confirmation from the folks at Redmond.
