Windows 10: Microsoft wants the Control Panel gone, will be subsumed by the Settings app

There have been countless debates regarding the new Settings app in Windows 10 and whether Microsoft has the intent (and the ability) of removing the Control Panel and having just one Settings app for all your needs. Well, according to Gabe Aul, the new Settings app is designed to subsume all the Control Panel features, and in time remove the Control Panel completely.

The tweet, embedded below, confirms that Microsoft is indeed planning to subsume the current Control Panel in favor of the new Settings app. Eventually, the new Settings app will be able to do everything the Control Panel can do. This is definitely exciting news for those who are in favor of the Settings app, but bad news if you’re a lover of the Control Panel.

I understand that many people are going to be quick off the mark here by telling me ‘subsume’ doesn’t necessarily mean replace. However, look at the first three words of Gabes response. “In time yes”. The original tweet was asking if the legacy Control Panel would be removed, to which Gabe’s answer is “in time, yes”. Furthermore, the definition of subsume is: “include or absorb (something) in something else”, so it’s not looking good for the Control Panel.

Many people have continuously been saying that Microsoft simply couldn’t remove the Control Panel from Windows, as it’s too integral to the operating system, however it appears that’s not the case. We’re not entirely sure what ‘in time’ means, so it could be a while before we finally say farewell to our beloved Control Panel. Either way, what are your thoughts on this?
