The Xbox One S isa nice and needed refreshfor the Xbox platform. The original Xbox disappointed fans at launch for a variety of reasons, mostly to do with things like DRM and the Kinect required at purchase. But the Xbox One also took some shots for looking clunky and industrial.
The new Xbox One is definitely an upgrade, especially in terms of looks. It gets rid of the massive power brick, comes in a svelte form factor, and can be stood on its side like the Xbox 360. And now the obvious has been confirmed: there will be custom Xbox One S consoles for certain bundles.
The first limited edition bundle is the Gears of War 4 Xbox One S. Both console and the custom “Crimson Omen” feature a blood red color scheme, complete with claw marks and a Gears of War logo.Mashable first reportedon the Gears of War 4 limited edition Xbox One S, stating the claw marks were added using a laser-etching process. It is also the 2TB of storage version of the Xbox One S.
The bundle will also come with:
… a download code for Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition (for XB1 and Windows 10), early access to the game on Oct. 7, Gears 4 weapon and character skins, a multiplayer lobby emblem and six “Gear” packs containing in-game items.
Mashable claims the pre-orders are now live. However, a search of the Microsoft Store at the time of writing did not reveal the new bundle. Hopefully it’s just a minor delay and pre-orders will be up momentarily. The limited edition Gears of War 4 Xbox One S bundle will be priced at $499.99 and will start shipping in mid-September.
There will also be a separate Gears of War 4-themed controller sold exclusively at GameStop and the Microsoft Store. Unlike the red controller included in the bundle, this other GoW 4 themed controller features a grey and blue color scheme to resemble J.D. Fenix’s armor. Both the red controller and the grey and blue controller will be sold separately for $74.99. It should also be noted that these are both the new Xbox One controllers unveiled at E3, featuring a new grip and Bluetooth pairing.
With more exclusive titles on the way, like ReCore, it will be interesting to see what further limited edition bundles Microsoft can design. Let us know in the comments what you think of these upcoming Xbox One S themed bundles.
